Hello, Audience Members!
We need YOU to make this happen and you have a very important role to play.
We wouldn’t have a Slam without you and when you buy your ticket or become a paid subscriber (monthly or annual), you’ll have some responsibilities in order to fulfill your role as a fully vested Wham! Bam! Thank You! Slam! audience member, because this is an interactive experience.
Every storyteller needs to have you in attendance to cheer them on, vote for them, and send a flurry of enthusiastic, but tacky and artless emojis flying around our Zoom screen.
We’ll ask you to unmute at the end of each story so the reader can hear your wild applause. And then we’ll mute you again, because we don’t want to hear you washing dishes, yelling at your kids, or shushing your barking dogs.
What would a slam be without an audience? I’ll tell you. It would be a dress rehearsal in an empty arena. And we don’t want that, ever, ever, ever.
The Queeries…Better Known as FAQ:
Q: Will I get to vote for my favorite storyteller?
A: Yes! The audience decides. There will be a poll at the end of the Slam. Eileen or Nan will tell you one of their 4-minute stories while the votes are tabulated, not by the PriceWaterhouse CPAs of the olden days; you know, those stuffy white men in boring gray suits and rep ties. Your votes are counted instead by some anonymous bot (yes, we use bots for tasks that have nothing whatsoever to do with creativity––that’s our job). We don’t rig voting like You-Know-Who. We don’t use mail-in ballots either. This is live, in-person, immediate gratification voting. You’ll have to be there…and then, once the show is over, you’ll be able to watch it again on the WBTYS stack…but only if you’re a paid subscriber.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Great question! We have special pricing based on the Wage Gap Model. You’re not familiar with the WGM? Oh, you must be a guy, so now that makes sense. Let us enlighten you.
Employing this model is our way of pointing to unequal earning. Today, women make roughly 80 cents to a man’s dollar. In the 1960s and 70s it was 59 cents. By 1990, women were earning a whopping 72 cents to every dollar earned by men.
It’s gotten 8 cents better, and it only took 35 years, but we’re still not there and that’s not okay AT ALL. And the statistic I quote applies to white women, only. The gap is much wider for women of color. That is DEFINITELY not okay.
Our pricing model for men: They’ll be charged 20% more than the price women pay to attend the live shows. We call it our SIRcharge. But men will get the same pricing for annual or monthly paid subscriptions.
Why? Because we’re awesome. It’s not your fault you were born male. Or is it?
Tickets for the slam if you’re not a paid subscriber: $10 for women. $12 for men. We’re not going to police you because we’re not the police, not ICE, not horrible people. We’re trusting you to do the next right thing…but if we get wind of you sneaking in on the discount, boys, we have the power to eject you from the space. Nan has a reputation and a trigger-happy finger. She loves the power of the “remove” button on Zoom. We’re working with her on her control issues. It may take a little time. She’s doing better, but often needs reminders to chill and not take EVERYTHING so seriously.
Paid Subscribers: For those of you who want to jump on board as paid subscribers, our monthly price is $10 (same as tickets, but you get access to all the archived posts for the month or months that you’re active. The cost of an annual subscription is $100. You’ll be able to take it all in, every month for a year. 12 shows! AND if you decide you want to give live storytelling a try, you’ll get priority over non-subscribers…but you have to have an active publication on the platform.
Matron of the Slam: If you want to become a Matron of the Slam (men can do this, too, but you can only be a Matron here), we’ll thank you by listing you on our Sponsor page.
Big Mama: What’s a Big Mama? It’s the name we’ve given to our official sponsors. You are a person or business who’d like to support women’s storytelling spaces. We have special rewards packages planned for you, and would love to chat about ways you can support our venture into live storytelling with a feminist edge.
You’ll be thanked on our Sponsor page, you’ll receive comp tickets to share with your friends, clients, etc. and you’ll get an extra mention at each live show. Your logo will be featured on our posts, and we’ll add a link to your stack. Join us. You’ll have a ball.

Hahahahaha. Well done. "sircharge" Ok, I'm a tiny bit confused. I don't want to add any more paid subscriptions--I already have too many! BUT, I do want to support you. So, is becoming a paid subscriber for a month the same as buying a ticket? When is the first show? Do I have to buy a monthly sub for *that* month to make sure I can see the show? I definitely want to be there for the first one...
