You know it! I'm thrilled. I want you to fill out the sign up sheet I created. You may want to do an updated bio, or give me a new photo, etc. It's really helpful for me to have on record.

These topics Nan!!!

Nan Tepper's avatar

What do you think? xo

KiKi Walter's avatar

I can't decide...there are so many good ones! I'm sitting here trying to figure out which one I want to do!

Nan Tepper's avatar

You can pick more than one, if you like…but don’t go overboard!

I have someone who just picked 6 of the 12. She and I have to discuss it, I think, but I’m thrilled. Especially because before she did her first slam with us, she was terrified at the thought of it.

She’s already done a couple, and I’m game for whatever she brings.

Pick a 2 or 3 if you like. xo

I picked two. I really liked January’s as well — the 12-step one too — but I’m doing it in December and figured that was too close.

Nan Tepper's avatar

It's not too close if you want to do it. You decide. Did you fill out the sign up form? If you haven't, please do. xo

Ok first of all WOW!!! Wow for being so on top already planning for next year! I don't know if I am a feminist. how does one know?

Nan Tepper's avatar

Hey Karen, thank you. I can't tell you whether you're a feminist or not, but these are things that are part of my feminist mindset; maybe they'll check some boxes for you, too:

Do you believe in equality between the sexes? Do you believe that women have a right to choose what they do with their bodies, without the whole world litigating and creating laws that prohibit that agency, do you believe in anti-racism, do you believe women have the right to vote, do you see the negative effects on the planet that the patriarchy has caused, do you believe that it's time for a woman to have a crack at the job of president? Do you believe that income inequality has to be dealt with? Do you believe we should all have affordable access to safe food, water, medical care, and housing? Did you know that globally, 140 women and girls on average were killed by a loved one every day last year, according to the United Nations. The numbers in the US alone are terrifying. Do you believe that the overwhelming backlog of rape kits that go untested is because women don't seem to matter as much as men. Did you know that most medical research and dosage recommendations are based on studies of men, but not women?

If you believe any of this, didn't know about some of it, or haven't thought of yourself as a feminist, what do you think now?

If you're free on Saturday June 20 at 5pm ET, come to the next slam, Kill the Patriarchy!

Then, look at the calendar and come tell a story.

Oof. I love you, Nan and respect your choices, and I won't be attending the men's show. I don't think men need yet another platform for forced applause and back-pats for what they see as being the good guy. Show, don't tell. If they have to explain what they are doing, they aren't doing enough or doing it right. And we are expected to do the emotional labor of listening to them (as if we don't have to do that all day, anyway), and tell them how wonderful they are to make sure they feel safe and good? Nope. Not for me.

Women's-only spaces are constantly under attack because men want their "equality". When women can walk around shirtless without being mocked or harassed or being in danger, then I'll gladly give up my zero-dicks spaces. Or, men can keep their shirts on. You know, for "equality". I don't see that happening anytime soon, though. And I don't see the point of sharing this space until then. Of course, this is your show. Do your thing. ❤️ xo

Sandra, we are a community and I care about what you think. I wish you had reached out to me privately, but this is okay too. Because I’m sure you’re not the only one who might have this type of response.

You can ooof me all you like. But, if you haven’t read my description of the event and what I expect from these storytellers, then you may be jumping the gun. I'm been vetting them face to face on Zooms. If they're not right for this, they're not in it. I'm making it very clear what I expect.

This isn’t going to be easy for them. And, if we don’t start listening to each other, nothing will ever change, nothing will ever heal.

I think you might be projecting your stuff here, a little bit. I have no intention of doing any emotional labor for men or anyone, but me. NONE.

You want to talk to me about it, I’m all ears.
