Bonjour, Bonjour Madame de Beauvoir, Yes, I first encountered Simone's writings in 1983 when I studied, A Very Easy Death, in senior high school. It moved me deeply, and perhaps on a subconscious level, started my preparation for the deaths that I was to attend in this life. A year or two later, when at Uni studying, Women's Studies, I purchased a copy of, The Second Sex, from a feminist bookstore around the corner from where I lived. I still have it, among her letters to Satre, and other texts. So, with much gratitude I give thanks, she was one of my earliest influences — and while I would have liked to be named after her, I wasn't — my Mum just liked the name. I asked her with the hope that the answer was Yes. Nevertheless Slamone, it is fabulous to meet you., perhaps I could change my name? Funny enough, my mother pronounced my name Seemoan, just a slight variation of yours 🤣💖🙏
I LOVE your mother. I have to tell you, my mother hates when I get tattooed and she doesn't miss a thing. I was talking to her yesterday on FT and I had my sleeves pulled down so she wouldn't see it. And as I said, she misses nothing. She saw a corner of it, and said "What is that???" I sheepishly said, "Oh, I've added a new member to my family." But didn't reveal. She insisted and I pushed up my sleeve and she looked at, knew who it was, and said "It's gorgeous." She's never, ever said that. And then she acknowledged me for basically surviving my life, and telling me how proud she is of all I've accomplished. It was quite a moment. But I never get sucked all the way in. I take the beautiful moments when they come and I step away when she wears a different self. They're all her, and I love her. But boy. Moms. Just in time for the show! Mothers and Daughters. Perfect. I love your mother’s response … that phrase, “I am proud of you” is unconditional love … now I am crying, heart swells. yes, I have tattoos, that’s how I know they are addictive 💖

GOOD! I'm glad you have them too. I went from age 28 when I got my first major tat and covered up a ridiculous first one, to age 60 without getting any more. And for my 60th birthday 'til now, I've gotten 5 new ones. And I'm already thinking about what might come next. We'll see! xo
