I have nothing against dicks. I birthed a person who has one. Nevertheless, they need not be everywhere. From riotously raucous to masterfully mellifluous, this sounds like so much fun.

Yes, indeedy, I know that about you, and I also happen to know that the person you gave birth to, may be an exception to my "rules." I guess I have nothing against dicks, (but let's not get into my opinion of testicles) but I often have issues with the people who are attached to them. I do my dicks and the people who are attached to them on a strictly case by case basis. Glad you're feeling positive about this venture. Looking forward to hearing your story in January! xo

Eek, so exciting!

This is great, thank you.

Nan Tepper's avatar

I'm excited that you're excited! Are you interested in doing a slam?

Kyra Faison-Gardner's avatar

I am. I’ve been exploring using my voice as a deeper form of expression beyond my writing. I do work with wise crones and love the powerful feelings that come forward when we SPEAK❤️‍🔥

Isn't it the best? When I started recording my stories on audio, it opened something up in me, and then, somewhat recently I began to video my essays. I absolutely adore doing it. I can't see myself ever stopping at this point. Claiming myself in the world. Taking my place and standing tall. I hope you do it with us. It's different than being on a stage, there's more of a boundary because we'll be doing it on Zoom. Everyone's response so far has been so positive and encouraging. I'm over the moon about all of it.

I’ve subscribed and will do some exploring, keeping an eye out for the right opportunity to participate.

Thank you both for bringing this to life.

Nan Tepper's avatar

That's wonderful. I've wanted to do this for a long time. I'm hoping it will become something even greater than I imagine. xo

Happy to have you!

I’ll watch and wait for just the right time to jump in🤗…like double dutch.

Nan Tepper's avatar

I'm glad you have a plan in mind! Did you subscribe to stay on top of the news? I'm very impressed by your Double Dutch, I couldn't ever do it. Even one rope was too much...

I love love LOVE this Substack newcomer! I’ll be tuning in!

Nan Tepper's avatar

I'm SO, SO, SO glad! Tuning in? Telling? or BOTH? (both, please?) xo

Sandra Ann Miller's avatar

Love this. Congratulations to you both and thanks for creating this space for dick-free storytelling! xo

Nan Tepper's avatar

OMG, I think you're perfect for this. You're going to have to tell a story, you know. You just bought in!

Just discovered you in the chat for Amanda’s live today and love the idea of this! Am sharing it @Nan Tepper

Nan Tepper's avatar

Thank you, thank you! I love @Amanda N. Bray! xo

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

I love Amanda as well! Just caught the end of her live today and am so glad I did! Btw, I just shared your event on Notes as well. Love what you're doing in highlighting marginalized voices!

Nan Tepper's avatar

I saw how much you pushed it out, thank you! And I just subscribed to your stack. One of the things I love about this community.

Isn’t it horrifying that as women, more than half of the world’s population are MARGINALIZED?

I’m done being horrified and not doing something about it.

So I’m jumping into the fray. And I’m never going to stop talking about it.

If you want a deeper dive, check out this post.

Thank you so much, Nan! I so appreciate that! I'm thrilled to have connected with you today. It's wild to have met you in such a synchronicitous way...during the final minutes of Amanda's live. I'm bookmarking all of these links.

Nan Tepper's avatar

Synchronicity is the best way to go! xo

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

Just "discovered" you on Amanda's Publishing Spectrum live today, Nan. Love your Substack and looking forward to following you. Love everything about this!

Nan Tepper's avatar

Come tell a story, if you like! xo

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

I would love to, Nan. I'm guessing that all of your spots are taken for tomorrow. Do you have future events which you'll be having open calls for?

Nan Tepper's avatar

They are absolutely filled. The show post is up on the site. It's a monthly event and there's a calendar of themes here: https://www.whambamthankyouslam.com/p/our-february-story-slam-the-love

May is fully booked, I have a couple of spots still open for March! That one's going to be hot. It's called ERA Now, Dammit. General stories about feminism!

Check out the storytelling tips post for guidelines: https://www.whambamthankyouslam.com/p/hey-storytellers YAY!

There are still seats left for tomorrow's event if you want to come check it out. OR you can become a paid subscriber to get access to every live show and all paywalled posts!

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

Thank you so much for all of this info, Nan. I am going to bookmark this all and will keep these future events in mind to submit for. I'm especially interested in the mother-daughter theme as I write a lot about my adventures around the world with my mom over the past 25+ years (mostly on a shoestring budget and independent of tours).

Nan Tepper's avatar

Oh, and you don't have to submit. We don't vet the stories. So just let me know when you pick a theme and as long as there's a spot open, it's yours. xo

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

Will do @Nan Tepper ! I bought tickets for today’s Event and am looking forward to it ♥️

Nan Tepper's avatar

I know I saw that about you and your mom, but unfortunately, the May Mother-Daughter filled up immediately. I have a waitlist for it, too. We'll probably run it once a year. But you can come listen to that one. If you have an equality story to share, there's a couple of spots still open for the March slam (it's anecdotal storytelling, so it happened to you, and has a beginning, middle and end. 4 minutes). More in comment above on that.

Rachel Sarah Thurston's avatar

Thanks so much for the heads up around May, Nan. I just realized that after I wrote my comment. I'll check out the other themes coming up and see if any of them resonate for me. Many thanks as well for subscribing! I just subscribed to yours as well. What a joy connecting with you today! Truly a highlight.
